We provide assistance accessing a wide variety of opportunities including evidence-based chronic disease self-management and falls prevention programs, Senior Center programming, exercise and wellness opportunities, and support groups.
A Matter of Balance
We contract with Chemung Volunteer Action Corps to provide "A Matter of Balance", a program to help you manage concerns about falling. Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning research-based program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.
The program was developed by the Roybal Center for Enhancement of Late-Life Function at Boston University. Trained Coaches conduct eight two-hour sessions for groups of 10 to 12 participants.
Attendees
- Anyone concerned about falls
- Anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility, and strength
- Anyone who has fallen in the past
- Anyone who has restricted activities due to concerns about falling
Learning Objectives
You may learn the following things:
- To exercise to increase strength and balance
- To make changes to reduce fall risks at home
- To set goals for increasing activity
- To view falls as controllable
