Targeted Patrol Areas

In 2006, the Chemung County Sheriff's Office initiated what is referred to as Targeted Patrol Areas (TPA). The TPA is an area within Chemung where citizens have expressed concerns or complaints about the driving behavior of motorists in that particular location. Deputy Sheriffs then attempt to blanket that specific area with additional patrols to identify and correct any traffic-related issues. No overtime is utilized in this program, and Deputies have added this task to their daily patrol duties and functions. Since the inception of the TPA, over 500 Uniform Traffic Tickets have been issued in the following towns: Ashland, Big Flats, Horseheads, and Veteran.
