The Catharine valley Trail was originally part of a towpath that followed the Chemung canal as it connected Senaca lake and the Chemung river. Abandoned in 1878, the Canal gave way to a railroad that followed the same path as our trail does today. Consisting of around 14 miles, the Catharine Valley Trail connects Horseheads at Mark Twain State Park and Wakins Glen at Senaca Lake, allowing us today to follow their path and explore a unique history of this region of the southern tier.
