Logged extensively and converted to farmland in the 1800s, this 2,000 acre piece of land was reconverted to forest following NYS's purchase of the land in the 1930's and with help from the Civilian Conservation Corps who planted almost a million trees in the area. Most of the area is open to hiking, but the only marked trail is a extension of the finger lakes trail that winds its way through the forest and ends near the town of Caroline.
