One of the largest state forests in the area, Hammond Hill is 3,697 acres of forested land located in the eastern region of Tompkins County. Established between 1935 and 1950, the park was reforested from abandoned farmland to help increase soil health and reduce erosion risk. Over 700,000 trees were planted in this time period by the Civilian Conservation Corps and nearly 100% of the area is now forested.
